Conference 10
November 7-10 , 1999
Budapest, Hungary

Theme: Where have we been? Where are we going?

As AUDEM starts its tenth year it seems fitting to elaborate these two themes: Where have we been? Has it just been ten years since our world changed? Can just ten years make a difference in the way people relate, toward common moral and social values? What has been the progress or lack of progress since 1989 -- how far has democracy travelled? The Conference will not attempt to come to a value judgement about progress or lack of progress, however, the question can be explicit or implicit in formal and informal discussions and debates during the Conference. Where are we going? The past as prologue... we encourage participants to use their current platform to look down the road... extend trends in their fields into the future. What can we dream? What hurdles exist? What opportunities or threats do you foresee? Abraham Lincoln once said, "the dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy future - as the situation is new, we must think anew." The 10th Anniversary AUDEM Conference provides an opportunity to celebrate our successes as we prepare for the future. Come - Celebrate with us... Come - Challenge us to think anew.
