Dear AUDEM Members,
This year marks our 25th year as an organization – and how we have changed in those 25 years. We started as a collection of Provosts and Rectors concerned with assisting universities in countries that formed or reformed after the breakup of the U.S.S.R. to address their new socially responsible and proactive roles in democratic societies. While we have wholeheartedly embraced that motivation we have become much more; an international organization of academics committed to collaboration, inter-university cooperation, and joint research. Rather than being an organization centered on committed universities we have become an organization of committed individuals from committed universities, and therein lays our strength.
The 25th annual Conference will be held at SS. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, Macedonia October 19th – 21st. Mark your calendars! Ready your papers! Tell your colleagues!
Last year we were fortunate to receive significant funding from USAID to support emerging scholars from the area surrounding our conference in Sarajevo. We will have more funding for emerging scholars this year, and for the foreseeable future. Sam Houston State University has committed funds annually that will bring emerging scholars to our conference each fall, and also bring some of them to the United States each spring to visit member universities and meet with students. I would encourage each of you to promote institutional membership so that your institution can participate in this program.
We have a new website in the works which will be ready in a few weeks. You’ll see the 2014 call for papers, a newly designed AUDEM logo, Facebook and Twitter feeds, and much more. We have incorporated a new paper submission process that is intuitive and simple, and a much easier registration and payment system.
I’m looking forward to seeing all of the old faces and many new ones in Skopje!
